What to Pack for a Lake Somerville Camping Trip

A good lake trip is mostly about not having to leave it. Pack the things that are hard to replace, and know what you can pick up on site. This list is built around what guests ask us most, with notes for cabins, RV sites, and tent sites.

Sun, water, and shade

  • Sunscreen and hats. The sun on the water is strong, and shade can be harder to find on a boat or the beach.
  • Life jackets. Bring them for kids and anyone who is not a confident swimmer. If you are on the water, wear them. Our marina’s marina store also carries life jackets.
  • Swimwear and water shoes. The shoreline can be rocky in places, so shoes you can wet are handy.
  • Towels. Cabins include towels. Bring your own for RV and tent stays.
  • Bug spray. Evenings near the water call for it.

Food and drink

  • A good cooler. Bring more than you think you need. Ice is $3 at the marina store if you run short.
  • Water bottles. Hydration matters more than most people expect on a warm day.
  • Simple meals. Cabins have a kitchenette with dishes and a coffee maker. RV and tent sites need your own cooking gear.
  • Snacks. The marina store has snacks and drinks for forgotten items.

Camp basics

  • Chairs. One per person, plus one for the fire ring.
  • Headlamps or flashlights. The park is calm after dark, and a light makes the walk to the bathhouse easier.
  • Layers. Evenings can cool off, especially in fall and winter.
  • Firewood. Skip the hauling. Firewood is $6.50 a bundle at the marina store, and campfires are allowed only in fire rings and must stay attended. Please do not scavenge wood from the grounds.

For cabin stays

Cabins A through E sleep up to six, with two queen beds, a bathroom, and a kitchenette. Linens, dishes, towels, and a coffee maker are included. If you need more bedding, an extra linen set is $20. Bring food, your own coffee, and anything for the kitchen that you cannot live without. See cabins and stays.

For RV and tent stays

  • Hoses, cords, and levelers. Standard 30-amp and 50-amp RV sites have electric and water. Only our Full Hookup sites also have sewer, so plan your tanks accordingly.
  • Dump station. We have one on site. Dump tanks only at the dump station.
  • Tent gear. Stakes, a groundsheet, and something for shade.

Check the park map before you arrive to see how sites are laid out.

Entertainment

  • Fishing rods, if you fish. The marina store carries tackle.
  • Cards, board games, and a speaker kept at a respectful volume. Quiet hours are 10pm to 6am.
  • A phone charger. Cell service is great across the park. Wi-Fi is available at the gatehouse, marina store, and cabins, not at campsites.

Pets

Pets are welcome in all lodging and at every site for $10 per pet per night (two pets maximum). Bring leashes, bowls, and waste bags. Details are on the park policies page.

Paperwork

Bring your confirmation. Check-in is 3:00 PM and check-out is 11:00 AM. If you arrive after hours, call (979) 289-2321 ahead of time and we will set you up. Guests wear a wristband on property, and each vehicle needs its parking tag.
