Some camping trips do not feel complete without a dog: nose out the truck window on the drive in, a sprint down to the water, the tired collapse by the fire that night. If that is the trip you are planning, here is what to know before you load up.
Where dogs can stay
Pets are welcome in all of our lodging and at every site. That includes cabins, cabanas, the hut, the screen room, RV sites, and tent sites.
The policy, plainly:
- $10 per pet per night
- Two pets maximum
- Keep them leashed
- Clean up after them
- You are responsible for your pet’s behavior
None of that is unusual for a lake campground, and we would rather say it up front than have it surprise you at the gate. Our park policies have the full rules.
Why the leash matters
The park is open, a lot of the people here have their own dogs, kids, or both, and the shoreline is busy on a nice weekend. An unleashed dog is a real risk, to your dog and to someone else’s afternoon. Keeping dogs leashed keeps everyone’s trip good, including yours.
A day with your dog
You do not need a special itinerary. Most of what makes a lake trip good for you is good for a dog too.
The water. Lake Somerville’s calm coves give dogs room to wade alongside the family. Bring a towel you do not mind getting wet.
The park. Walk a leashed dog between sites and down to the shoreline. The park map shows the layout.
The boat. If you are heading out on the water, a life jacket sized for your dog is worth having if yours is not a strong swimmer. Ask about the public ramp and the marina: the launch is $10 for everyone.
The evening. A tired dog stretched out by a campfire while the sun goes down over the water is hard to beat. Fires go in the fire rings and are never left unattended, and firewood is $6.50 a bundle at the marina store.
