Things To Do at Lake Somerville

Lake Somerville is one of central Texas’s most beloved outdoor destinations — and Overlook Park puts you right in the middle of it. From world-class bass fishing and open-water boating to peaceful paddling through quiet coves, there’s something for every pace and every age. Come for a weekend, stay for the week.

Fishing

Lake Somerville is home to largemouth bass, white crappie, and channel catfish. It’s a world-class reservoir with year-round action — pack your gear, grab live bait at the marina, and find your spot on the water.

Boating & Water Sports

With 11,000 acres of open water, Lake Somerville is built for boaters. Bring your own boat or ask us about rentals. Skiing, wakeboarding, tubing — the lake has the room for it all.

Kayaking & Paddling

Discover quiet coves and calm inlets perfect for kayaks and canoes. Paddle the shoreline at sunrise, explore the wooded edges of the lake, and see the park from a whole different angle.

Hiking

Lake Somerville State Park and Trailway offers some of the best hiking in central Texas. With 85 miles of shoreline trails winding through post oaks and creek drainages, there’s always a new trail to explore.

Birdwatching

The Lake Somerville shoreline is a premier birding destination. Watch for bald eagles, great blue herons, wood ducks, and dozens of migratory species — especially during spring and fall migration seasons.

Swimming

Cool off in the lake at designated swim areas during the summer months. The warm Texas waters make for a perfect afternoon swim — whether you’re jumping off the dock or wading in from shore.
